6-DAYS KILIMANJARO CLIMBING USING MACHAME ROUTE
ARRIVAL DAY
Upon arrival, meet and greet at the airport, then transfer to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay at Zebra Hotel Moshi.
DAY 1: MACHAME GATE (1490M) TO MACHAME CAMP (2980M)
Your day begins with a briefing and breakfast before driving from Moshi to Machame village (1490m). After preparing your gear, you will receive a packed lunch. Depending on road conditions, you may drive to the Machame Gate or walk the 3 km to the gate. After registration, you’ll enter the rainforest, which can be muddy and slippery. Enjoy a lunch stop along the way and arrive at Machame Camp in the late afternoon, where your tents will be set up by the porters. After dinner, rest in your tent as night temperatures may drop near freezing.
DAY 2: MACHAME CAMP (2980M) TO SHIRA CAMP (3840M)
After an early breakfast, climb for about an hour to exit the forest and continue through the moorland zone. Enjoy a short lunch break before ascending onto the Shira plateau, where you can see the stunning glaciers of the Western Breach. Arrive at Shira Camp (3840m), where porters will prepare dinner. Expect colder temperatures tonight.
DAY 3: SHIRA CAMP (3840M) TO LAVA TOWER (4630M) TO BARRANCO CAMP (3950M)
The route heads east into a rocky landscape surrounding Lava Tower (4630m). After lunch at Lava Tower, you’ll descend approximately 680m to Barranco Camp (3950m). This day is crucial for acclimatization, as the descent helps adjust to higher altitudes. Enjoy the sunset over the Western Breach as you prepare for dinner and sleep at Barranco Camp.
DAY 4: BARRANCO CAMP (3950M) TO BARAFU CAMP (4550M)
After breakfast, tackle the Great Barranco Wall, which is challenging but rewarding. Continue through the Karanga Valley and ascend to Barafu Camp (4550m). Familiarize yourself with the terrain as you prepare for the summit attempt later. Ensure your gear is ready, and go to bed around 7:00 PM for a brief rest before your summit attempt.
DAY 5: SUMMIT ATTEMPT - BARAFU CAMP (4550M) TO UHURU PEAK (5895M) TO MWEKA CAMP (3100M)
You will wake around 11:30 PM for tea and biscuits before beginning your ascent to Stella Point (5685m). This is the most mentally and physically challenging part of the trek. Enjoy a breathtaking sunrise at Stella Point before the final push to Uhuru Peak. Spend a short time at the summit for photos, then descend back to Barafu for a brief rest before continuing to Mweka Camp (3100m) through the lush forest.
DAY 6: MWEKA CAMP (3100M) TO MWEKA GATE (1980M)
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic hike back to Mweka Gate. At the gate, sign the register and receive your summit certificate—gold for reaching Uhuru Peak and green for Stella Point. Complete your descent into Mweka village and then drive back to Moshi. Do not forget to tip your guides and porters as you celebrate your achievement!
